Authorized Scale Certifications

Did you Know?

The Weights & Measures act was changed on August 1st, 2014. This change affects your scales, scale-scanners, and scale/printers.

What does this mean for Food Retailers?

In order for your scales to be legal for trade, they must be certified and re-labeled every five years.

How can this be good for my business?

Knowing your scales are properly calibrated and certified means that you are not under-charging or over-charging your customer. If your scales are “weighing too light” you are losing a percentage of your sales volume.

What happens if my scales do not have a current certification?

There is a potential government seizure of scale and potential federal fines of $2,000 to $50,000.
